I'd guess you can't see the number by the bolt:

    3.45 geared 7.5 rearend...........very common in 4cyl, 5spd Rangers through the 90's.

if you'll look on the tag inside the drivers door and find the axle code we can help point you in the right direction to find out which rearend you have...

No need, I already know the 84 on the door sticker corressponds with a 3.45 geared open 7.5" rear end, but the truck's 14 years old and, according to someone I recently spoke with, who claimed to be a former owner, it has already been through many hands before getting to me.
I just wanted to make sure I actually had what I thought I did, and it seems that I do.
Thanks for filling me in, 360Ranger.

    Gears

I know this is an old thread but I'm new and just catching up on the learning curve. Just checked my door tag and my code is a 97, 8.8 open rear with 4:10s
Now I'm just wondering how these gears will work with 32 or 33" tires?

they should work fine as long as your motor has enough umph to turn them... ie having a v6 compared to a 4cyl...
